What is your current role and what are your main responsibilities?

I am currently an associate attorney at von Briesen & Roper, s.c. and a member of the Litigation and Risk Management Practice Group. I work on a wide range of matters, including insurance coverage and defense, toxic tort, municipal prosecution, real estate, and general litigation.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Curious, motivated, dedicated

Please share a brief overview of your career path and how you got to where you are today, including what inspired you to pursue a career in law.

I started in 2015 at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, where I earned an athletic scholarship to play soccer. During my time there, I had the privilege of being part of a successful program and was honored to receive All-American recognition. After graduating in December of 2019, I had opportunities to play professional soccer at the lower levels, but those opportunities quickly disappeared when the COVID brought the sports world to a halt.

However, I had always envisioned a career in law. Ever since watching My Cousin Vinny as a kid, I was fascinated by the legal profession and the idea of advocating for others. I knew I was not going to play soccer forever, so it was an easy decision for me to make the choice to go to law school. Thereafter, I committed to that goal by studying for the LSAT and, shortly after, enrolling at Marquette University Law School.

After my first year of law school, I was fortunate to secure a summer associate position with von Briesen & Roper, S.C. That experience confirmed that I had found the right fit, and I was honored to receive an offer to return as an associate after graduation. I have been with the firm ever since, and it has been an incredibly rewarding place to begin my legal career.

What skills or qualities do you believe are most important for success in the legal profession?

I believe two of the most important qualities for success in the legal profession are attention to detail and dedication. The law is often decided by the smallest facts or the precise wording of a document, so having a keen eye for detail is essential.

Equally important is a strong work ethic. There are times when the job requires long hours and intense preparation, whether it's getting ready for a hearing or drafting a brief. Being willing to put in the time and effort necessary to produce high-quality work is critical. While the legal profession can be demanding, I have found that the most rewarding results often come from thorough preparation and a commitment to doing the job right.

What aspects of your work do you find most fulfilling?

The most fulfilling part of my work is advocating for my clients and helping them achieve their goals. Legal issues can be overwhelming, and many people find themselves in situations where they are unsure how to protect their rights or effectively navigate the legal system. I enjoy being the person who can guide them through those challenges and advocate on their behalf.

Whether it is resolving a dispute, obtaining a favorable result in court, or simply providing clarity during a difficult time, it is incredibly rewarding to know that my work can make a meaningful difference in a client's life. Helping clients navigate complex situations and achieve positive outcomes is what makes practicing law so fulfilling.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

"If you're going to do something, do it right, or don't do it at all"

How do you balance your professional and personal life?

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important to me, although it can certainly be challenging at times. Outside of work, I am still very passionate about soccer. I regularly play amateur soccer in various leagues throughout the Milwaukee area and also compete with United Serbian Soccer Club in the Men's Major League.

Balancing both commitments requires planning and discipline. At the beginning of each week, I try to organize my schedule so I can make the most of my time. On days when I do not have soccer, I often work longer hours, so I have greater flexibility on other days. I appreciate that my profession allows me to manage my schedule in a way that lets me pursue both my career and a passion for the sport. I have found that staying active through soccer helps me recharge and return to work focused.

What do you hope to get out of the Serbian Attorney Association?

As the first lawyer in my family, I did not grow up knowing many Serbian attorneys or legal professionals. One of the things I hope to gain from the Serbian Attorneys Association is the opportunity to meet and build relationships with other Serbian attorneys. I look forward to expanding my professional network, learning from the experiences of others, and becoming more involved in the Serbian legal community.
